Choose gold PVD when…

  • The item is touched, moved or cleaned daily
  • You need 100+ pieces matched exactly
  • The finish must survive banquet or restaurant use
  • You want rose gold, champagne or black
  • Budget must be predictable, not gold-price linked

Choose gold plating when…

  • Genuine gold content is contractually required
  • The item is jewellery or a presentation piece
  • It is decorative and rarely handled
  • The base metal cannot enter a vacuum chamber
  • The piece is very small and intricate

Comparison FAQs

Which lasts longer, PVD or gold plating?

PVD, by a wide margin. Indoors, gold PVD holds its colour for 10+ years while electroplated gold typically dulls within 1–3 years of regular handling.

Is gold plating still worth it?

Yes, in specific cases: jewellery, religious artefacts, presentation items and any specification that requires genuine gold deposition and hallmark value. For furniture and architecture, PVD is technically superior.

Can you re-coat an item that was previously plated?

Yes. We strip the old plating, re-polish the base metal and apply PVD. This is one of our most common jobs — halls bringing back chairs that have gone patchy.
